Where and how to find out the UPFR code
Where can I find the UPFR code, how can I find it out? The easiest way is to contact the registration number of the policyholder assigned to the organization/individual entrepreneur by the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation. After registering the policyholder with this department, he is sent an electronic document confirming the fact of registration. In accordance with paragraph 2 of Art. 11 of Law No. 167-FZ of December 15, 2001, the policyholder also has the right to receive confirmation of the fact of registration in the form of a paper document.
The registration notice will include the policyholder's 12-digit registration number. The first 6 digits of this number will be the identifier of the territorial unit of the UPFR.
What does the UPFR code mean?
It should be noted that entrepreneurs and companies face many problems with determining the territorial code of the Pension Fund of Russia.
Next, we will consider how to find out the code of the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Russia. To begin with, here is some general information about the UPFR code:
- Each branch of the Pension Fund is assigned a number consisting of 6 digits.
- The first three digits of the code indicate the area code, and the remaining digits indicate the area code.
- When sending the SZV-M report to the Pension Fund in electronic form, this detail must be included in the file name. It is indicated between the policyholder number and the name “SZV-M”.
- If the report file name is formed incorrectly, the Pension Fund may not accept it.
Please note that if an organization has changed its legal address, it may be assigned a new registration number in the Pension Fund (if, when changing the address, the company is transferred to the jurisdiction of another territorial branch of the fund). You can clarify this by requesting an extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.

The procedure for registering legal entities obliges them to register in the Unified Register even when they are created. The same applies to individual entrepreneurs (small or medium-level businessmen).
After the procedure, the company receives its own unique number. And using the registration number, it will be possible to check the code of the territorial location of the Pension Fund to which it is linked.
To register a company, you must follow the following procedure:

Pension Fund authority code in the file name
In order to submit the SZV-M report in electronic form, the transferred files must meet the requirements of the format approved by the order of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation Board dated February 25, 2016 No. 70r. This format provides for the file name of the electronic SZV-M to be the following data set: In practice, a correctly formed SZV-M report file looks like this:
№ | Decoding |
1 | Indicates that the report is intended for the Pension Fund. |
2 | The number under which the policyholder is registered as a payer of insurance premiums. |
3 | Code of the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Russia that accepts the SZV-M report. |
4 | Indication that it is SZV-M that is being rented. |
5 | The period for which SZV-M is provided. |
6 | Unique identifier of the file. |
7 | File extension – xml. |
So, as you can see, number 3 indicates the code of the territorial body of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation, which accepts the SZV-M for the reporting period. If this code is specified incorrectly, the report will simply not be accepted. As is correct, accounting programs enter this code into the reporting file automatically. However, to avoid mistakes, we suggest paying attention to the following.
The code of the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Russia consists of 6 digits. These figures include:
- the first three digits are the region code;
- the second three digits are the area code.
Note that most often, the 6 digits that appear at the beginning of the organization’s registration number in the Pension Fund of Russia are the code of the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Russia.
We recommend that you take into account that the policyholder's insurance registration number never changes. They are assigned to an organization once and do not change if the address or region changes. However, in the event of a move, the PFR authority code will no longer correspond to the first 6 digits of the registration number. In such a situation, it makes sense to check the new code of the PFR body with the specialists of the territorial PFR body by phone.
